Kids In The Kitchen: Party-Time Parfaits
One of the Best ways to encourage your kids to eat more colors of the fruit rainbow is by making a parfait. Kids get so inspired when they can create something themselves. I’ve worked with kids of all ages teaching them how to make a Parfait and the kids get into it. They love layering the fruit and yogurt in different ways. And they Love choosing the different fruits to put into the parfait. When the children have creative control, they can truly go to town and enjoy eating the plethora of colorful fruits.
Take a look at some parfait ideas to get your kids concocting their flavorful masterpieces:
Ingredients: (age appropriate for children able to use knives with adult supervision)
- 1 cup Plain Yogurt (I like Greek Yogurt because it has more protein and is thicker in texture)
- ½ cup Fruit (any type of fruit you want to use is perfect. I like to have at least 2 fruits for more color and more variety)
- Cinnamon for sprinkling
Directions:
Slice fruit into bite-size pieces. Get a pint glass or big cup and start to layer the parfait. First put a spoonful of fruit into the bottom of the cup. Next put a spoonful of yogurt. Sprinkle some cinnamon on top. Add another spoonful of fruit, with another layer of yogurt and another sprinkle of cinnamon. Continue to layer it up until the cup is full.
Suggestions for Parfait Fruit-Combos:
- Kiwi & Strawberries
- Red Grapes & Green Grapes
- Banana & Kiwi
- Blueberries & Raspberries
- Pineapple & Kiwi
- Peach & Apple
- Red Apple & Green Apple
The list can go on and on. But you get the drift. The options and ideas are endless! What parfait are you going to make today?

Thank you for the great ideas for yogurt fruit parfaits! Please also remember that this will also make a delicious dessert if you freeze the individual parfait. It tastes like fruited ice cream! Just be sure to cut the fruit in smaller pieces about 1/2 inch in diameter so it is easier to eat frozen.

Great idea! And the frozen makes it like ice cream. What a delicious “dessert” Thanks for sharing Carol!
