5 Mother’s Day Presents From The Heart
Mother’s Day is coming up this weekend! Sadly, I won’t be able to see my mom since she’s far away. However, I’ll be spending the wonderful day with my mother-in-law and my sister’s-in-law. Being surrounded by women you love, adore, and admire is a pure pleasure I’m looking forward to. (this photo is my mother-in-law, Mary, my husband, Tomas, his sister, Margherit, and his dad, CJ).
Not all of us have the opportunity to spend time with our mom’s on this special day. Making sure the important women in our lives know how much we cherish them is a must.
Here are 5 fabulous Mother’s Day presents from the heart.
- Write an Homage. In addition to your basic card, write an homage to your mom letting her specifically know how she affected your life for the better. I wrote a post last year for the world to see how my mom was an angel and always made sure I had the best opportunities growing up. Homages are simple yet powerful ways to show your appreciation.
- Cook a Feast. Family. Food. Fiesta. is all about spending time and eating a meal together. Make your mom’s favorite meal for her. Make it with love. Enjoy one another’s company and bring laughter to the table. Creating memories is so powerful and lifelong-lasting.
- 365 Notes Of Love. Get an old pickle jar (or any big jar). Wash it. Decoupage it. Cover it with glitter. Decorate it however you want. Make 365 little mini notes of love so your mom can pull out 1 note every day of the year. The notes can read things like: “I’m thinking of you today” “1 free hug today” “Remember when we __________(fill in the blank)” This present takes time. It took me about 6 hours! My mom still has this jar and she recycles the notes every year to continue the loving thoughts flowing. Think of it like a jar filled with fortune cookie notes dedicated to your mom.
- Scrapbook. What better way to compile special moments and memories into one present than a scrapbook? The scrapbook can be simple! Start it off and fill it with just 3-4 pages of photos including a description. The description is where you can write how you feel and express your gratitude. Find easy scrapbooking materials and ideas HERE.
- Plan An Adventure. Make a homemade “gift card” which describes a fun day to be spent together. The adventure day can include a walk through a park with a picnic. A drive up the coast stopping at a cute café. Shopping together for 1 small present of choice. The point of the gift card is to make a date to spend time together. Making memories is priceless. (this is a photo with my cousin, Brett, myself, my mom, my sister-in-law, Sharon, my auntie, Susan, and my other cousin, Jill. Hanging out and getting our nails done).
Creativity on Mother’s Day makes the gifts extra special. Time to get artistic and express all your thanks and love.
***Remember, Mother’s Day is more than just telling your mom how grateful you are for her. Mother’s Day is about celebrating all the women in our lives who have touched our hearts and souls and helped guide our own journeys. Reach out to those women you know and spread the love of celebrating the “mom.”

Happy Mother’s Day to all the women I’ve met in my life. You have helped make me the person I am today! Thank you!!! Muchisimos Besos!
Sarah Koszyk, MA, RDN
Sarah – sounds like you will be with your mom in spirit, and she obviously holds an extremely special place in your heart! Not sure what my plans are just yet, but I love your suggestions for different ways to make the day special. My girls have been dying to go get a pedicure with me!
What a great adventure Stacey! Your girls will have a fun time! The best part is just hanging out together. Happy Mother’s Day!
Hmmmm! You called Margherit your sister but I was only your sister-in-law…….
LOL! Sharon: You MUST be the sister #1 in my book! And Margherit is sister #1 and so is Janelle 🙂 At least your reading the post!
These are GREAT ideas!!! I totally hate how commercial holidays have become, but this is just beautiful. thank you for sharing these ideas!
I agree Victoria, it’s so good to not commercialize holidays. Thanks for commenting!
Oh I love the idea of writing an homage to my mom! Like you, I am not physically close enough to see her for the holiday (or often for that matter), so it makes every connection we have all the more precious.
Happy Mother’s Day!
Have a great weekend Sabrina! Sending my props to you, too, being the fabulous woman you are!
These ideas are way better than my usual gift card! I esp. like the scrapbook idea and the notes in a jar. (My mom would be better off if I didn’t cook for her.)
Beth: you crack me up! I’m sure your cooking is fine…but a scrapbook or notes in a jar is always a perfect gift idea! It’s all about showing her the love, right? In the best way you know how.
The jar is a seriously good idea! I would probably be so stoked to get something like that. Bet my mom would, too.
It is fun opening it up every day and reading all those loving papers, Hannah 🙂
what great ideas! They are all SO thoughtful and take time and diligence. I love the 365 notes one, but I think i’d probably do a 30 day one! haha, i can’t imagine myself creating 365, i wonder how long it would take?
Thank you for the ideas, sarah!
30 days is good Carolina! It’s the thought that counts! The 365 notes took me about 6 hours! It’s amazing how long it takes to think up little sayings or thoughts, etc. 30 notes makes sense, too!
Your Mom wants to go to a movie and eat popcorn. She’ll get that plus I’ll cook a heart-shaped meatloaf with baked French Fries.
You know how to treat mom, well! Love you, too, dad!!!
Sarah, I think we’re sisters in Spirit because we’re on a similar mission. Family – biological and in spirit – open to all who want inclusion in the fun, light-heartedness that comes from sharing happy times – with food of course! My mother is no longer with me but always near. This Mother’s day will be a bit of an adventure for me. My son the videographer will be joining me and his sister and we’ll be filming a little cooking trailer for my website! Happy Mother’s day to all!
Fun Mother’s Day!!! I love it, Silvia! It’s really all about spending time and making memories with our loved ones and celebrating the people we value most, right!? How fun your day will be! Happy Mother’s Day to you, too! And yes…you are my Spirit Sister 🙂 Love it!
lovely gift ideas, sarah. i especially appreciate #5 (“plan an adventure”) because my mom and i used to plan and go on adventure days (and enjoy every minute of them). sadly my mom, my best friend, passed away from cancer several years ago. but i still honor her vivacious spirit on mother’s day.
April: sounds like you and your mom had a lot of great memories before she passed. Cherishing all the precious moments we have together is important. Happy Mother’s Day! Enjoy celebrating all the women who have touched our souls. Your mom will always be with you in spirit. 🙂
Hi Sarah- These are wonderful ideas:-) The weather will be gorgeous tomorrow. We’ll be spending time outside and enjoying each other’s company. I love what you said about honoring all the women who have touched our lives. Happy Mother’s Day! xoDana
Happy Mother’s Day Dana! Have a wonderful celebration! Sending my love right back to you!
Dearest Sarah, Wow….I love what you wrote about me and all Mothers. I am filled with thankfulness, because you are such a beautiful daughter, inside and outside. Your lovely, kind words made me feel so, so special today and always! Thank you for you,
Love,
Mom
Mom: you know how much I love you! Happy Mother’s Day! Looking forward to hanging out with you soon on our next adventure to Chicago 🙂
Sarah, what a bunch of fantastic ideas you listed. The beauty of them is that they don’t have to be given only on Mother’s Day! I will be saving this treasure of ideas for the next time I want to honor my mom or some other lady who has positively impacted my life. Thank you so much for the ideas!!
Thank you April! Your so right about using the gifts anytime. Great tip!
